The Société de SAINT-VINCENT DE PAUL

Implemented in the Montreal/Laval/L’Assomption region, the Société de Saint-Vincent de Paul's mission is to provide help to any person in a difficult situation, regardless of language, culture or religion. Founded on the actions of our volunteers and their desire to create meaningful relationships, our interventions aim to lend an ear as well as a hand and companionship to our community’s most vulnerable individuals. Dignity, self-reliance and community melding are core values of our service offering, might it be through our food assistance, stay-in-school or social integration programs or through an access to basic material necessities.

Established in the Montreal community since 1848, the Société de Saint-Vincent de Paul is an international organization active in 140 different countries and relying on an estimated 800,000 volunteers.

Our fields of action

1

TRANSITORY FOOD ASSISTANCE

Whether in the context of a job loss or a prolonged health-related recovery, transitory food assistance provided through our volunteers give individuals the needed break and peace of mind to find long-term solutions to their problems. The need for this kind of service is ever-present and constantly renewed.

STAY-IN-SCHOOL PROGRAM

When it comes to school dropouts, The SSVP intervenes at the root of the problem. Since children living in low-income households drop out of school more often than others, we have created the Opération Bonne Mine Program in order to beat these odds. Through this initiative, we help families by lessening the financial burden linked to the back-to-school season. We also award perseverance scholarships to students who have demonstrated a sustained effort in improving their grades during the school year. These grants aim at boosting self-confidence in the students’ own learning abilities, giving them the determination to go the distance.

Back-to-work assistance is an important part of our mission. It provides a genuine springboard to people having trouble getting back into the labour force, by helping them to regain self-confidence and acquire sound work ethics.

For many, sharing and rejoicing is what the holiday season is all about. But for others, it is a particularly hard period to go through. We feel that everybody should have the right to a joyful – and dignified – Christmas. That’s why the SSVP organizes its yearly Guignolée fundraiser, to collect food, toy and money donations that will brighten up the holiday celebrations for many underprivileged families. The SSVP is also proud to partner with the famed, Québec-wide Grande guignolée des médias.
